With the Las Vegas Raiders hiring New England Patriots’ Dave Ziegler as the team’s new general manager, Josh McDaniels will reportedly be joining him as well.

It’s been a busy day for Las Vegas Raiders owner Mark Davis and the team’s fans are loving what they’re seeing. First, NFL insider Adam Schefter reported that the team had hired Dave Ziegler as general manager. He’s not the only one making his way from New England to Sin City.

Per Schefter, the Raiders will also be bringing in Josh McDaniels to take over as head coach. The McDaniels to Las Vegas rumors had been heating up and now things are about to be made official for the two sides.

Josh McDaniels is all set to become the new Las Vegas Raiders head coach

Talk about a big-time get for the Raiders in landing McDaniels. For years now, McDaniels appeared ready to become a head coach. He even was all set to join the Indianapolis Colts in 2018, but he spurned them at the last second to stay with the Patriots.

Since taking over as the New England OC, McDaniels helped the team win two Super Bowls. In total, he was with New England for five Super Bowl triumphs. He’s loved all over the Boston area and that will never change.

Having said that, it’s clear McDaniels is finally ready to run his own show. Him making his way to Las Vegas is sure to infuriate folks all over Indianapolis, but McDaniels nor the Raiders care about that one bit. McDaniels will now work closely with Derek Carr and Co. to not only try and get back to the postseason, but get the team in a position to compete for a Super Bowl sooner than later.

Josh McDaniels coaching career: What is Josh McDaniels coaching record?

While he has the right pedigree, this isn’t the first time McDaniels has been plucked from Bill Belichick’s coaching tree. Back in 2009, he left New England to become the Denver Broncos head coach — a tenure that had one very high height but crashed and burned in spectacular fashion.

McDaniels was ultimately fired for his involvement in a videotaping scandal, something that was both a black mark for McDaniels but also one that rippled back to the controversies that have occurred with the Patriots over the years. His firing came less than two full seasons into his time as head coach in Denver, which is an embarrassing stain that McDaniels has yet to wash out of his reputation.

The videotaping scandal alone wasn’t the reason McDaniels was fired, as his 11-17 record was a major factor as well.

After that, he spent a brief stint with the St. Louis Rams before returning to the Patriots in 2012 to rebuild his reputation — as well as winning a few more Super Bowl rings.

For all the praise McDaniels gets, those two seasons in Denver make up his entire head coaching career. He heads back to the AFC West with that 11-17 record, which includes 4-6 record against the Chargers, Chiefs, and Raiders.
