No. 23: Drew Brees and Marques Colston

The story of Marques Colston is an inspirational one, as he was a seventh-round draft pick out of Hofstra, and would go on to be one of the best wide receivers in New Orleans Saints history. Posting a 1,000-yard season as a rookie, Colston was named to the All-Rookie Team, and it would be the beginning of a special era of football in the Bayou.

Teaming with the great Drew Brees, the Saints pulled the City of New Orleans out of the dark after Hurricane Katrina. In a building that was used to house people who lost their homes due to the Hurricane, Brees and Colston brought joy to the City, and in the end, helped the Saints to a Super Bowl XLIV win over the Indianapolis Colts.

Throughout his ten-year NFL career, Colston had only one person throwing him the football, and that was Brees, who would go on to set the NFL’s all-time record for passing yards. All told, Colston hauled in over 700 passes from Brees, nearly 10,000 yards, and found the end zone 72 times, all New Orleans Saints records.

While Brees is headed to the Pro Football Hall of Fame, Colston is a member of the New Orleans Saints Hall of Fame, an incredible achievement for someone who was not drafted until the seventh round.
