The Jim Harbaugh to the Vikings rumors have been gaining steam in recent days, but now taking him from Michigan is reportedly already a done deal.

From the start of the NFL coaching carousel, there was smoke with Michigan Wolverines and former San Francisco 49ers head coach Jim Harbaugh going to the NFL. And as the calendar has turned to February, the buzz has been growing that he could return to the professional ranks with the Minnesota Vikings.

The latest report was that Harbaugh and the Vikings were set for an interview on Wednesday. As it turns out, though, that interview might actually be better called a contract signing according to new reports.

Chris Balas of The Wolverine and On3 is reporting that the meeting between Minnesota and Harbaugh is a “formality” and that he will sign a deal to return to the NFL when he goes on Wednesday.

Vikings rumors: Jim Harbaugh interview a ‘formality’ to sign contract

The report describes the Michigan football players as being in “wait and see mode” with their head coach amid the NFL rumors in addition to noting that Harbaugh was not in his office in Ann Arbor on Tuesday.

Moreover, Harbaugh also reportedly said some goodbyes to people around the Wolverines’ facilities, though he has yet to address the team.

It’s crucial to note that none of this is from the Vikings or Harbaugh. In fact, beat reporter Chris Tomasson talked to Harbaugh earlier on Tuesday and the Michigan head coach (for now) would not confirm or deny anything about his situation with Minnesota.

As stated, though, there has been smoke around this that has been growing. And as the saying goes, that likely means there’s some type of fire. Perhaps Wednesday when the reported meeting between the two sides is slated to take place will provide further clarity on the situation.
