Former Michigan football head coach Jim Harbaugh isn’t headed to the NFL sometime soon, as he denied the Minnesota Vikings, per recent reports.

Harbaugh was hired at Michigan in 2015 as the savior of the program. While he didn’t necessarily make good on that goal to a tee, Harbaugh was able to get Michigan back to the College Football Playoff, only to lose to Georgia in 2021-22. With Harbaugh staying in college, he’ll have a chance to do so moving forward.

However, compared to where the Wolverines were before his takeover, it’s safe to consider his tenure in Ann Arbor a relative success.

What was Jim Harbaugh’s record at Michigan?

Harbaugh’s record at Michigan is 61-24. Assuming he leaves the Wolverines (as has been reported), it leaves the Michigan athletic department in a strenuous position to replace him with a big name.

Jim Harbaugh salary

Harbaugh signed a five-year deal with Michigan in 2021 that had a $4 million annual value attached to it. The deal carried around $8 million in incentives.

How much is Jim Harbaugh’s buyout?

Harbaugh’s buyout is reportedly only $1.5 million at Michigan, per Chris Tomasson of the St. Paul Pioneer Press.

A limited buyout makes Harbaugh an attractive commodity for the Vikings, as he’s far more affordable. It also gives the current Michigan coach a greater opportunity to make a higher salary at the professional level, as his agent is surely taking such a low buyout mark into account when negotiating a contract with the Vikings.
