Memphis Grizzlies — Ja Morant

2020-Present
20.3 points per game
7.2 assists per game
4.4 rebounds per game

This might be Mike Conley erasure but what Ja Morant is doing this season is unlike what we’ve seen from a point guard ever in the history of the Memphis or Vancouver Grizzlies. Morant has been one of the best players in the league this season. That deserves recognition. Morant is quickly becoming one of the best players in the league at any position. He’s averaging 26.2 points per game at the time of this writing, good for sixth in the league and ahead of such names as Steph Curry and Nikola Jokic, two MVP candidates.

The Grizzlies have never seen a season like this from a player. There is no point guard season where the player took over the league and single-handedly dragged this team into one of the top seeds in the playoffs. Maybe Morant will get injured or maybe he will struggle down the stretch and this will look bad on this article, but the likelihood of that happening seems small.

Morant is just in his second year in this league, and he’s the best point guard to ever play for this franchise. He loves Memphis, and the team loves him even more. He’s a highlight reel waiting to happen. He often scores 35-40 points in a game when the Grizzlies absolutely need it. It’s clear the Grizzlies are going to get a top-three seed, and Ja Morant deserves to be in the MVP conversation because of it.

Again, this might be too early. This kid is in his second season in the league. However, it seems clear Morant is going to be taking over this list soon anyway. Might as well get on the bandwagon early.
