Miami Dolphins Mock Draft – Second Round

San Diego State Aztecs. Cameron Thomas. 50. 59. Pick Analysis. player. Scouting Report. EDGE

While Miami could look for an offensive lineman or a gadget offensive player with its second-round pick at No. 50 overall, again, the best thing that will help McDaniel is to have the other side of the ball humming with elite talent coming in. If the Dolphins want to win the AFC East, they are going to need an edge rusher who can get after Josh Allen, Mac Jones and Zach Wilson for years.

One player who could make sense for the Dolphins at No. 50 is Cameron Thomas out of San Diego State. He may have played at the Group of Five level, but he thoroughly dominated the Mountain West starring for the Aztecs. At 6-foot-5 and 290 pounds, he has the frame to play defensive end, no matter the scheme or the technique. Putting him next to Davis could be tremendous for Miami.

Ultimately, the Dolphins are going to be in a better position to compete in divisional play if they can steal a possession or two in a game. We can trust McDaniel to work his magic with the offensive players he already has. The best thing he can do is have faith in his incoming defensive personnel to force a timely turnover or two every game. Pairing Davis and Thomas together might do that.

Again, the Dolphins are not going to win the AFC East with great regularity until they can assert themselves as having the best pass rush in divisional play.
