Super Bowl 56: 10 likeliest players to win MVP
4. Ja’Marr Chase, Bengals receiver
Like Cooper Kupp, Chase made history in 2021. The fifth overall pick put together, probably, the greatest rookie season by a wide receiver in NFL history. He broke the record for rookie receiving yards, scored 13 touchdowns and was the Bengals leading weapon en route to the Super Bowl.
Chase has already racked up 279 yards on 20 receptions in the postseason so far. The Bengals have moved him around the offense like the ultimate chess piece this season, and good things happen when Burrow gets the ball to Chase. He can win in single-coverage with ease, is dynamite after the catch, and can go up and win contested catches against the best of them. Topping the best rookie receiving season of all time off with a Super Bowl MVP would really be something too.
3. Cooper Kupp, Rams receiver
Another inevitable choice. Kupp just together one of the greatest seasons by a receiver of all time, and has continued to dominate in the postseason. In his three postseason games, Kupp has totaled 25 receptions for 386 yards, adding four touchdowns in the process. He’s Stafford’s fail-safe, and the two have built up quite the connection in such a short space of time.
Aside from the first half against the Kansas City Chiefs, the Bengals secondary has held up rather well. But they’ll have a tough time against Kupp, who has cemented himself as one of the best receivers in the NFL this year. It would also be a nice story for Kupp to win Super Bowl MVP too. He missed Super Bowl 53 after tearing his ACL, but Kupp has the chance to make history with another huge game while becoming just the seventh wide receiver to win Super Bowl MVP.
