Eli Apple talked a big game coming into Super Bowl 56 with the Bengals but some big-time blunders got him roasted by Tyreek Hill and several others.

Leading up to Super Bowl 56, Cincinnati Bengals cornerback Eli Apple was one of the most vocal players that would be suiting up for the matchup with the Los Angeles Rams.

The former Giants and Saints defensive back talked about wanting to match up with Odell Beckham Jr. and being ready to shut the Rams down — this after talking down to the Chiefs after the Bengals defeated them in the AFC Championship Game to get to this spot.

However, it was Apple himself that came into the spotlight on the biggest defensive drive of the game for Cincinnati.

With the Bengals up 20-16 but the Rams driving, Apple committed a costly defensive pass interference penalty that gave LA a fresh set of downs with goal-to-go. After a failed QB sneak, Matthew Stafford picked on Apple again, finding Cooper Kupp for what would end up being the Super Bowl-winning touchdown pass.

After it was Apple who conceded the game-winner to the Rams and, in essence, cost his team the Super Bowl, his critics were quick to come out. Most notably, Chiefs wide receivers Tyreek Hill and Mecole Hardman, along with a couple of his former Saints teammates, came out to chirp the defensive back for getting burned.

Well, that certainly should make Apple think twice about his trash talking. Or at least it should.

This probably won’t be enough to stop Apple from talking, though. It’s kind of been proven to be his nature at this point.

However, even though the Chiefs weren’t competing in the Super Bowl, Hill and Hardman were able to get the last laugh on Apple after he went in on them in the wake of the AFC Championship Game.
