Best Ohio State football players this century 4. Wyatt Davis – Offensive Lineman  2018-20

Again, it’s hard to really weigh the impact of an offensive lineman, but it’s hard to argue that Wyatt Davis didn’t deserve to be in the top five when it comes to impact on the Ohio State football program. It’s strange since he wasn’t even an offensive tackle, widely considered the “most important” offensive line position, but the big bodies in the middle for the Big Ten make offensive guards just as important.

Davis was going to opt-out of the 2020 season after he was named to multiple All-American teams in 2019, but he decided to return after the Big Ten made it clear they were going to have a season. He qualified to be a unanimous All-American for his final season at Ohio State. He ended up injuring his knee, which ended up hurting his NFL Draft stock, but he stayed in the lineup for a crucial stretch for the Buckeyes, showing his commitment to the team.

Davis saw a lot in his three years as a player on this roster. He grew as a guard in his first year, and he become one of the best at his position in the nation during his second year. He was one of five players in this era to be named an All-American in more than one year. One of those players was Mike Nugent. It’s clear that Davis is one of the best at his position, and he was willing to sacrifice his NFL Draft stock in the name of the team. He was a captain for a reason, and he is one of the best at his position to ever play wearing the scarlet and gray.
