Houston Texans Mock Draft – Second Round

Scouting Report. WR. Ohio State Buckeyes. Chris Olave. 37. player. Pick Analysis. 10

At one point in time, it seemed like the pair of former Ohio State wide receivers who opted out of playing Utah in the Rose Bowl back in January would end up going in the first round. That may no longer be the case. While Garrett Wilson feels like the one Buckeye wide receiver to go in the first round, Chris Olave may not be all that far behind him. The Texans could take him at No. 37 overall.

No matter what the Texans decide to do at the quarterback position, they need to get a playmaker in the receiving corps. Olave showed during his time in Columbus he can play both alongside other great receivers, but do so in a multitude of roles. For the value, potentially making Olave the first wide receiver taken on day two could be worth it for the Texans. That is the time to take a wideout.

Again, this is all about value. Will there be other wide receivers coming off the board before Olave in the 2022 NFL Draft? Absolutely, but recent history has shown us teams can get a lot of productivity from that position group if they wait a day to draft a receiver. Though you could risk losing him a year earlier in free agency if you don’t win enough, Olave is a catalyst for change.

Getting a top-25 player in the top-40 is a great way for the Texans to ace their 2022 NFL Draft.
