4. Top free agent targets for the New York Jets – CB J.C. Jackson

The Jets raised some eyebrows last winter when they opted not to sign a top cornerback in free agency or draft one with a premium pick. Head coach Robert Saleh opted to give valuable reps to the team’s collection of young corners, leading to good development for the likes of Bryce Hall, Brandin Echols and Michael Carter II.

While that group can be the backbone of a solid cornerback group, the unit still lacks a top corner that can make impact plays on the ball. Fortunately for New York, one guy who fits that bill is set to hit the market in the form of New England’s J.C. Jackson.

The Patriots’ top cover corner was a dominant force in 2021, racking up eight interceptions and defending a league-high 23 passes. Opponents had a very hard time throwing at Jackson, who is just entering his prime at age 26.

It remains to be seen whether or not New England will tag Jackson but if he hits the open market the Jets will be on the phone with his agent right away. Landing a guy like Jackson would allow the rest of New York’s young corners to slot into complementary roles, making the unit as a whole much stronger.
