Look for the Browns to be one of the many NFL teams vying for Chris Godwin

Expect for the Browns to be among several teams hoping to win the Chris Godwin sweepstakes in his free agency. So much has changed since the Tampa Bay Buccaneers won Super Bowl 55 over the Kansas City Chiefs. Godwin played a huge part in Tampa Bay’s most recent league championship. A year later, he has been franchise tagged, hurt and seen Tom Brady call it a career.

As with Williams, Godwin has dealt with injuries before. However, one would think his ceiling is higher as a potential No. 1 wide receiver. Like Williams, he has played alongside one of the game’s very best throughout his career. The question for Godwin is will he be willing to become a new team’s No. 1 option and leave behind a good thing going alongside Mike Evans down in Tampa.

What makes the Browns attractive is they already have a Pro Bowl wide receiver in Landry. Of course, the big elephant in the room is the play of Mayfield. Can Godwin develop the type of chemistry with him Beckham never could? Though the Browns may not win out for Godwin’s services, that should not stop them from taking part in the necessary courtship to win him over.

Even if they come up short, that does not mean the Browns should avoid trying to land Godwin.
