2022 NFL Mock Draft: Lions shock with Malik Willis
By Brad Weiss
One team that has a significant advantage during the 2022 NFL Draft is the Philadelphia Eagles, who hold three first-round picks this April. Philadelphia has three picks within a five-selection span, and the party gets started for them at No. 15 overall.
With this pick, the Eagles look to bolster the defensive line, bringing in a premier edge rusher in Travon Walker from Georgia. This is a kid who can improve one of the weaker parts of this Eagles defense immediately, as they start to improve an already playoff roster.
The Eagles hold back-to-back picks in the first round of the 2022 NFL Draft, and it will be interesting to see if they hold on to all three of their first-round selections. While they could move out from any of the three spots, they hold onto the picks here, selecting Ahmad Gardner from Cincinnati at No. 16 overall.
Widely regarded as possibly the most NFL-ready cornerback in this draft class, Gardner plays with a chip on his shoulder, and would bolster a bad Eagles secondary immediately. Philadelphia made the playoffs last season and plays within a weak division, so their 2022 draft haul could set them up to be the elite of the NFC East for years.
Going into last season, many expected the Los Angeles Chargers to take a major step forward, with some believing they would be a Super Bowl contender. Well, they did not even make the playoffs, and now, they will look to improve the roster to take the next step towards being a legitimate playoff contender.
Picking at No. 17 overall, the Chargers could decide to go offensive line, bringing more protection for elite quarterback Justin Herbert. However, they instead go with a weapon for Herbert in our latest mock draft, bringing speedy Alabama wideout Jameson Williams to be the future at the position group in Los Angeles.
The New Orleans Saints are another team with a big question mark at the quarterback spot, and they could certainly move up and pick one in the first round. However, new head coach Dennis Allen may like what he has in Taysom Hill or Jameis Winston, and instead, they bring in a wide receiver here at pick No. 18 overall.
That wide receiver is Chris Olave, who joins teammate Garrett Wilson as a first-round pick, and could help usher in a new era at the position in New Orleans. This is a team that will go through a bit of a rebuilding period this season, but Olave would be an excellent long-term solution at the position in the Bayou.
