3. Top free-agent landing spots for Marcus Williams – Kansas City Chiefs

This offseason is a critical one for the Chiefs, who have hosted four consecutive AFC Championship Games but have won just one Super Bowl in that period of time. Kansas City does have a big safety question as well with Tyrann Mathieu set to test free agency after the season.

The Honey Badger is turning 30 years old in May and the Chiefs can’t use the franchise tag on him since they will likely tag left tackle Orlando Brown if they can’t agree to a long-term extension with him. Losing Mathieu would create a big hole at safety that Williams would be well-equipped to fill.

A ball-hawking safety like Williams could unlock another level to the Kansas City defense, which had its struggles during the course of the regular season. Williams would also be intrigued since he could have a good shot at a Super Bowl ring with the Chiefs.

The question here will center around the salary cap. Kansas City has just over $4 million in cap room before re-signing Brown or adding their draft picks, meaning the gymnastics could be tricky if Williams wants to get paid handsomely as well.
