2. CB Bradley Roby

The Saints traded a third-round pick to the Houston Texans for Roby during Week 1 last season. Then, he didn’t play as much as might have been expected (394 snaps in 14 games; a 42% share) while rotating with rookie Paulson Adebo.

Roby has a cap hit of over $10 million for 2022, which is certainly a noticeable number for the cap-strapped Saints. Cutting him before June 1 would also clear almost $9.5 million of that cleanly off the books, with the remaining $677,900 as dead money.

ESPN.com’s Mike Triplett tabbed Roby as the Saints’ player who needs a change of scenery the most this offseason. A parting of ways is probably a mutual need and want. Roby is still a good player who would surely like to play more, while the Saints obviously need as many easy ways to trim chunks of cap dollars as they can find.

With the above context, the idea of cutting Roby doesn’t feel that surprising. But after surrendering a draft pick they could certainly have used this year to add an inexpensive talent, cutting bait on a starting-caliber player one year in would be a little bit of a jolt.
