3 Rams players Kevin O’Connell can poach for the Vikings
By John Buhler
It is not just Kevin O’Connell who could get Von Miller to the Vikings organization
Even if he is part of Aaron Donald’s run-it-back crew, Von Miller carries massive value on the open market in his free agency. The long-time Denver Broncos superstar pass rusher was dealt to the Rams mid-season last year. He leaves Los Angeles with a second Super Bowl ring. Though he could come back to the Rams, the Vikings have to be a major contender to land him in free agency.
Yes, he technically would be following O’Connell to the Vikings if he signed there, but this is all about reuniting with former Denver defensive coordinator Ed Donatell. Prior to joining the Vikings, Donatell was Vic Fangio’s defensive coordinator in Denver. He followed Fangio over from the Chicago Bears in 2019. Miller missed all of 2020, Donatell knows what type of player he is getting.
Though Wade Phillips is out of coaching, his son Wes is the new offensive coordinator in Los Angeles. Miller could stay put, but he could also reunite with a familiar face in Richard Smith who joins Gus Bradley’s defense in the Indianapolis Colts. In short, plenty of Miller’s former defensive coaches are scattered across the NFL. The Vikings have to like their chances of maybe landing him.
O’Connell may not be able to pry a Ram out of Los Angeles, but getting Miller would be massive.
