2. Top landing spots for Dalton Schultz – New York Jets

There may not have been a worse tight-end situation than the one that the New York Jets put out on the field in 2021. After failing to land a difference-maker like Jonnu Smith last offseason, Joe Douglas opted to go for a flyer on Tyler Kroft instead and the move predictably backfired.

Kroft battled injuries all season long as the tight end spot often fell to the uninspiring trio of Ryan Griffin, Daniel Brown and undrafted rookie Kenny Yeboah. That was a big problem since offensive coordinator Mike LaFleur came from San Francisco, where George Kittle is an integral part of the scheme that Kyle Shanahan runs.

Adding Schultz would solve the tight end hole immediately, giving the Jets the freedom to run LaFleur’s system to its full potential. New York also needs to work on adding more weapons to help second-year quarterback Zach Wilson develop and a strong tight end like Schultz certainly fits the bill.

This fit would also be good for Schultz since the Jets have nearly $40 million in salary cap room already and can afford to pay him at a plus salary. Douglas also likes to target free agents who have their best football ahead of them, which Schultz certainly does at age 25.
