Florida basketball has work to do to ensure an NCAA Tournament spot. Where do the Gators stand in the latest bracketology?

The Florida Gators are battling in the SEC for a place in March Madness. It’s just not certain they’ll get there.

The Gators pulled off an upset over Auburn a week ago. They just weren’t able to manage the same against Arkansas a few days later. Now they’re 18-11 and very much on the NCAA Tournament bubble

Update 3/14: Florida didn’t do enough in March or the SEC Tournament to move off the bubble and make the NCAA Tournament.

Are they going to punch their ticket or be left disappointed?

Florida basketball: Gators bracketology and where we stand

Florida has a NET ranking of 51 with two Quad 1 wins in 10 tries and a 4-2 record in Quad 2. They also have a Quad 4 loss.

Bracket Matrix, the website that compiles more than a hundred bracket projections on the internet, expects the Gators to miss out. While their average seed is 11.73, only 11 of the 106 predictions include Florida.

On the plus side, they got a big endorsement from Jerry Palm of CBS, who plugged them in as a No. 12 seed with a play-in opportunity.

However, other big-name predictors are less certain of the Gators making it in. Joe Lunardi of ESPN put Florida out of the tournament behind a host of others.

Brad Evans of Bally Sports and Brian Bennett of The Athletic similarly excluded Florida as part of their First Four Out.

What does that mean for the Gators?

They at least have a big opportunity for a valuable win in the regular-season finale at home against No. 7 Kentucky on Saturday. First, they’ll have to see off Vanderbilt on Tuesday.

The surest way to lock in a March Madness bid will come in the SEC Tournament where the stakes will be high.
