In 2018, under coordinator Vic Fangio, the Chicago Bears’ defense was indeed fearsome. The team finished that season as NFC North champions with a 12-4 record. Matt Nagy’s team allowed the fewest points in the league, totaled an imposing 50 sacks and forced an NFL-best 36 turnovers. That group was led by the addition of Khalil Mack, who the Bears obtained from the Raiders in one of the bigger trades in recent seasons.

Now this club is not only has a new head coach in Matt Eberflus, the team will have a change at defensive coordinator for the third straight year. Chuck Pagano held the title for two years after Fangio left to become the head coach of the Denver Broncos. In 2020, it was promoted assistant Sean Desai. Now Alan Williams, who coached with Eberflus with Indianapolis, takes over in the Windy City.

Chicago’s new GM is Ryan Poles, who is very familiar with Kansas City Chiefs’ safety Daniel Sorensen. He comes off a season in which he totaled 51 tackles (40 solo) and two interceptions while being tied for second on the club with eight passes defensed. He could bring a little moxie to a unit that was tied for 23rd in the league in rushing defense.
