San Francisco 49ers Mock Draft – Fourth Round

Scouting Report. Memphis Tigers. 133. player. 42. Pick Analysis. WR. Calvin Austin III

Though the 49ers’ offense is very ground-centric under the guidance of head coach Kyle Shanahan, he does make use his all different types of receivers in his scheme. With a handful of wide receivers looking to come off the board in the first round of day three, the 49ers could look to add someone like Calvin Austin III out of Memphis at No. 133. Memphis players have a reputation.

While it has been a few years since Mike Norvell coached the Tigers, his former team’s players are still finding their way onto many teams’ draft boards. This is because of the inherent versatility his offensive players have played with. Though Austin is very much a wide receiver, he might be the type of playmaker Shanahan could look to use in a multitude of ways. This gives him the nod here.

Ultimately, Austin is not going to be an immediate impact player right away because of the depth and experience in the 49ers receiving corps. It will take some time for him to crack the rotation as a rookie. However, playing for a former wide receiver himself in Shanahan in an offensive scheme that relies on a great deal of creativity and misdirection, there are worse places to be drafted to.

For the value, look for the 49ers to go with a wide receiver of sorts with their fourth-round pick.
