Saints could have surprising replacement for Jameis Winston

While everyone is expecting Jameis Winston to start for New Orleans next season, ESPN is reporting a Jimmy Garoppolo trade could happen too. 

Who will be the starting quarterback for the New Orleans Saints next season? That’s what everyone is waiting to see, but all signs are pointing to the team finalizing things with Jameis Winston. But, could a surprise be on the way?

That could be the case, as ESPN is reporting that New Orleans could trade for Jimmy Garoppolo. With Garoppolo rumors continuing to fly, a move to New Orleans could make sense for him in this case.

Saints interested in potentially trading for Jimmy Garoppolo

The consensus is that Garoppolo has played his final game with the 49ers. After the loss to the Rams, he basically said goodbye to the fanbase with his comments. Garoppolo should draw plenty of interest from teams, especially if Aaron Rodgers stays with the Packers.

Rodgers is expected to make his decision in the near future. Other than him, there aren’t other sexy quarterback options other than Garoppolo out there. Mitchell Trubisky continues to be linked to different teams, but he’s proven he’s not a trustworthy starter.

Garoppolo has had his fair share of ups and downs as a No. 1 QB as well, but he’s clearly a better option than Trubisky. Is he better than Winston? There’s certainly an argument for both sides.

Come March 16 when the new league year begins, we’ll find out where some of the biggest names out there will be playing next. Winston could quickly re-sign with New Orleans, or the front office could pull a fast one on everyone and go elsewhere. Potentially Garoppolo? It’d be a risk, but it could pay off for this team down the road.
