SEC Conference Tournament predictions

  • Dates: March 9-13
  • Location: Tampa, FL
  • Venue: Amalie Arena
  • TV: SEC Network (1st Round, 2nd Round, QF), ESPN (QF/SF/Final)
  • Top Seed: Auburn
  • Bracket

The top-heavy SEC Tournament should be a lot of fun down in Tampa. The only real bubble intrigue comes from Florida, which has to win a second-round game against Texas A&M before getting a shot at Auburn, although the Gators likely have to reach the final to be in the mix for an at-large bid.

The drama comes in the bottom of the bracket, where Tennessee won a tiebreaker over Kentucky to claim the No. 2 seed in the tournament. The difference is massive as Tennessee’s first game will come against either South Carolina or Mississippi State while Kentucky likely draws Alabama, which is one of just three teams to beat Gonzaga this season and can take down the Wildcats if they’re on their game.

A potential Tennessee-Kentucky showdown on Saturday afternoon would provide tremendous theater for the semifinals. The top of the bracket will likely see Auburn take on either LSU or Arkansas for the other spot in the final, giving Bruce Pearl’s squad an edge on a neutral floor.

The bottom of the bracket being so rugged gives a massive edge to the Tigers. That makes Auburn the logical pick to win in Tampa since they will also be highly motivated to try and secure a No. 1 seed in the NCAA Tournament that would come with a win on Sunday afternoon.
