Guard. New York Knicks. Shaedon Sharpe. 11. player. 27.

Sharpe is still a bit of a mystery. He graduated early from high school and joined the Kentucky Wildcats for this spring semester but hasn’t actually played at all, opting instead to prepare for next season. It’s still not clear if he’ll actually declare for the draft but he could absolutely end up in the lottery, based just on his high school credentials and what he shows in individual workouts.

Sharpe has nice size on the wing and explosive athleticism. At the prep level, he looked a lot like a primary wing scorer, someone who could get to the basket at will, knock down pull-up jumpers and wreak havoc in the open court. He also worked hard at the defensive end and this note from Kevin O’Connor seems particularly important: “Gritty player on offense. He crashes the boards, cuts, and would probably screen if his coach asked him to. He’s able to score off scrappy plays with no wasted motion.”

A player this raw may be a terrible match for a coach like Tom Thibodeau who hasn’t been great at creating opportunities for his young players to get experience and develop. But if he’s still there by the time the Knicks are picking, his upside may be too good to pass up.
