New York Giants Mock Draft – Second Round

Pick Analysis. Scouting Report. CB. Washington. Kyler Gordon. 36. player. 31

Cornerback may not be an immediate need for the Giants but James Bradberry’s days with the team are likely numbered. Bradberry’s high salary-cap figure and solid production have led the Giants to try trading the veteran but they could look to release him with a post-June 1 designation to free up the cap space necessary to sign their draft picks.

This would obviously create a hole at cornerback but tabbing Washington’s Kyler Gordon in the second round would be an immediate fix. The physical tools in Gordon’s game are off the charts as he has the speed and strength necessary to tangle with the NFL’s best wide receivers.

There are still aspects of Gordon’s game that need improvement, particularly in the areas of route recognition and understanding play design. Landing with the Giants would be an ideal fit since New York already has a good corner under contract in Adoree’ Jackson, which would allow Gordon to work as the No. 2 corner as a rookie.

Swapping out Bradberry for Gordon would be a short-term hit with the potential for long-term gain if the Giants can develop Gordon properly. That kind of risk management is what it will take for Schoen to dig the Giants out of salary cap hell and turn them into a contender quickly.
