New York Giants Mock Draft – Third Round

Scouting Report. Pick Analysis. TE. player. Colorado State. Trey McBride. 67. 31

Tight end has become a major area of need for the Giants after they cut Kyle Rudolph for cap reasons and Evan Engram left for Jacksonville in free agency. Engram was a disappointment after failing to consistently be a factor in the passing game, so grabbing Trey McBride in the third round would be a nice move to bolster that portion of the offense.

McBride has drawn rave reviews from scouts as a pass-catcher who can line up anywhere in the formation and cause matchup problems for the opposing defense. Adding a playmaking tight end would be a big boost for Daniel Jones, who needs all the help he can get in a contract year.

Pick Analysis. OT. 81. player. 31. Scouting Report. Ohio State. Nick Petit-Frere

Unlike Neal, who is a plug-and-play prospect, Petit-Frere is more of a developmental pick in the third round. The upside for Petit-Frere is enormous since he has the athletic skills to become a starter in the league but inconsistent play against speed rushers in college is a concern.

The Giants tried to go the developmental route a few years ago with Matt Peart but that experiment hasn’t paid a ton of dividends. Adding Petit-Frere would create immediate competition for Peart while adding depth to the offensive line with the potential of developing a starter that is ready to take over in a year or two.
