2022 NFL Mock Draft: New No. 1 overall pick emerges for Jaguars
By Brad Weiss
Arguably the biggest surprise of the 2021 NFL season camp on the second-to-last weekend of the year, when the Cincinnati Bengals beat the Kansas City Chiefs in the AFC title game. Sure, the Bengals have a lot of solid, young talent, but the offensive line was one of the worst in the conference.
This offseason, the Bengals made sure to shore up the offensive line, putting veteran talent in front of star quarterback Joe Burrow. With those guys in place, the Bengals can go defense here at the bottom of the first round, filling a void at safety with Daxton Hill from Michigan.
The final pick in the first round goes to the Detroit Lions, who earned this selection by trading away Matthew Stafford to the Los Angeles Rams. All Stafford did in his first season in LaLa Land was win the Super Bowl, giving the Lions the No. 32 overall pick, as well as some heartbreak.
With this pick, the Lions once again go defense, adding a tremendous linebacker in Nakobe Dean from Georgia. This is a versatile player who can also come up and play in the box, so between him and Kyle Hamilton, the Lions’ defense gets a major upgrade in the first round in 2022.
