George Pickens is the wide receiver worthy of taking a first-round flyer on

No doubt about it. George Pickens is the guy the Chiefs need to target in the first round to solve their wide receiver issues. He may not have lived up to the hype in Athens, but he was the most talented receiver to play for Georgia since A.J. Green teed it up Between the Hedges. Pickens can do it all and has the makings of a true No. 1 wide receiver. He is absolutely worth the risk here.

What makes Pickens such an intriguing prospect is he can do a little bit of everything well in the receiving game. He can go inside and dominate the middle of the field as a possession receiver. Kick him outside the numbers and he can embarrass one cornerback after another. Should he be needed in selling out the ground game, Pickens is not afraid to get his nose dirty and get physical.

The only real downsides with Pickens are injury concerns and maturity. This is why he is not a guarantee to work in every NFL scenario. However, the Chiefs have the right mix of football culture and winning to offset any potential shortcomings the former Georgia star might have coming out. On paper, he is a day two pick, but the upside should have teams interested in taking him top-32.

Pickens could be one of the best wide receivers in what looks to be a deep draft class this spring.
