Yankees trade rumors, Deivi Garcia

3. Deivi Garcia

Garcia flashed signs of real potential during his late-season call-up to the Yankees back in 2020, but things haven’t gone well for the diminutive right-hander since that cameo. Losing out to fellow youngster Clarke Schmidt to make the big league roster out of Spring Training might signal the end of Garcia’s time as a part of the team’s long-term plans.

Unlike Andujar, Garcia is still young enough to turn things around. He’s still just 22-year-old which comfortably gives him several more seasons to figure things out in the minors if the Yankees want to extend him that type of opportunity.

That also makes it easier for another front office to believe they can unlock Garcia’s full potential after swinging a deal for his services. He may not be an elite prospect at the current point in time, but he can raise his stock significantly with a few quality starts at Scranton.

The Yankees might prefer to wait things out to see if Garcia can establish himself as a member of their future starting rotation, but he is an interesting trade chip for Cashman to wield at the moment. Fans shouldn’t be shocked to see him in the move as part of a larger package in the coming months.
