By landing Notre Dame safety Kyle Hamilton at No. 14 overall, the Baltimore Ravens have gotten the early frontrunner for the steal of the 2022 NFL Draft.

Somehow, someway, Notre Dame safety Kyle Hamilton fell all the way to the Baltimore Ravens picking at No. 14 in the 2022 NFL Draft.

Hamilton was the best player on one of the better teams in the country. He felt like a lock to go in the top 10 of the 2022 NFL Draft, but a run on wide receivers started by Hamilton’s hometown Atlanta Falcons picking at No. 8 allowed a player of Hamilton’s caliber to fall right into the hands of one of the very best run organizations in football in the Ravens. It is better to be good than lucky.

Safeties may not be as valued as other defensive positions, but Hamilton was the best in his class.

While Hamilton is the type of player who can come in and start immediately, he goes to a franchise that has been built on defensive excellence for over two decades now. Baltimore has such a tremendous football culture already, but he is the type of on-field leader that will flourish playing for John Harbaugh. The Ravens rarely pick this high, so getting Hamilton is just fantastic.

What makes this pick so great is Baltimore just let other teams that do not know what they are doing screw up ahead of them. Some teams traded up to draft wide receivers. Instead, Baltimore stood its ground patiently and may have ended up with one of the five perennial Pro Bowlers in this draft. With him coming aboard this season, maybe he helps Lamar Jackson win a Super Bowl?

The Ravens continue to epitomize organizations that are prepared will create their own luck.
