1. Micker Adolfo is an aging White Sox prospect someone may take a flier on

It’s strange to call any 25-year-old “aging” but when talking about baseball prospects, that’s precisely what they are. Micker Adolfo is in Triple-A again this season and falling short of expectations after a tremendous spring.

Adolfo caught the attention of White Sox fans when he slashed .435/.500/.783 in his 28 plate appearances with the team in spring training. Adolfo added two home runs and drove in nine in what looked like a breakthrough performance.

Adolfo had already enjoyed a successful 2021 campaign featuring 25 home runs combined at the Double-A and Triple-A level. A power-hitting outfielder who won’t hit for much average, he’s the kind of guy built for a DH spot.

The White Sox wouldn’t get a whole lot for Adolfo. Maybe an aging veteran on an expiring contract would make sense. Or perhaps someone that has a different talent or plays somewhere other than the outfield in a similar situation on another club’s Triple-A squad could work. What doesn’t seem likely is for Adolfo to insert himself into the White Sox outfield. If they haven’t given him the chance yet, it may never come.

The White Sox already look like they will have some big needs at the trade deadline or even sooner. Adolfo, an older prospect but still young man with years of control left, could be enticing enough to a seller to take a flier on. At the very least, maybe it can help them get out from under a bad contract.
