3 reasons Seahawks trading for Baker Mayfield is actually perfect

1. Stealing a game or two in NFC West play could parlay into a nice new contract
Not to say the Seahawks are going 0-6 in NFC West play, but they are projected to finish in dead last in the divisional race. It may have been a buzzsaw of late, but the Seahawks are definitely pulling back this year. However, Pete Carroll has too much pride and is too good of a head coach for the Seahawks to go 0-for in divisional play. This means Mayfield could be getting some wins.
Let’s say Mayfield has three really good games during his 2022 trial run with the Seahawks. One would think at least one of them would come against either the Arizona Cardinals, the Los Angeles Rams or the San Francisco 49ers. In a league driven by parity, Mayfield should be able to clip a few of his newfound division rivals in a contract year for him. Big division wins will help him get paid.
Mayfield’s hypothetical one year with the Seahawks is not about winning every game under the sun, but reinventing himself to some extent. He puts some good tape out there and plays well in those six games circled on the calendar and he could get a long-term opportunity somewhere, possibly in Seattle if he balls out of his mind. Either way, this epitomizes low risk, high reward.
Amid all the expected losing, what do the Seahawks really have to lose here at the end of the day?
