Scouting Report. NFC. New Orleans Saints. 1. player. Pick Analysis. South. 15

The Honey Badger could be coming home and playing for the New Orleans Saints

Who says you can’t go home? Mathieu is already an LSU football legend, so it would only be fitting if he played for his hometown New Orleans Saints before he does hang up the spikes. That could be several years from now, but now is not a bad time for Mathieu to come aboard in The Big Easy. He would be playing for a defensive-minded head coach in Dennis Allen should he join the Saints.

Though these are not the same Saints from yesteryear, this would be an interesting entry point for the future hall of fame defensive back. Not to say the Saints need to reset their football culture, but it has been well over a decade since they last went to a Super Bowl. Mathieu thrived playing for an absolute juggernaut over in the AFC West. At the very least, Mathieu could mix things up.

While there are other teams who could be interested in signing Mathieu, the Saints should be the slight favorite to get him. Even with a new head coach, the Saints have a decent shot at being a playoff team because they play in the worst division in football. Though New Orleans will not be without challenges in its first year under a new head coach, Mathieu can be counted on this fall.

Look for fans of the Saints and Bayou Bengals to be ecstatic if Mathieu is ultimately coming home.
