Red Sox: 5 players who should already be on the trade block
4. Connor Wong
Wong is having a much better season in AAA than he did in one game with the big league club. Wong was brought to Boston when Kevin Plawecki was placed on the Covid-19 injured list
In two games with Boston, he went 1-for-6 with an RBI. He hit a dismal .167/.143/.167 with a -27 wRC. He hit 83.3 percent ground balls. He has a 14.3 percent strikeout rate. In seven plate appearances with Boston, 57.1 percent involved the opponent’s defense implementing the shift. He had a max exit velocity of 103.1 in a batted ball even for the Red Sox.
For AAA, Wong is hitting .304/.360/.348 with a +97 wRC. He has a 16 percent strikeout rate and a 4 percent walk rate.
Wong originally came to Boston as a piece in the deal that sent Mookie Betts to the Los Angeles Dodgers. Due to Wong being under team control, the Red Sox may not want to move him but he could be an interesting option for another team looking to trade a valuable asset for depth a catcher.
