Roderick Strong, the last remaining member of the Undisputed Era in WWE, has reportedly requested his release from the company repeatedly.

On Friday, Apr. 29, WWE released 10 NXT stars from their contracts. One other NXT star reportedly wants out of WWE.

According to Fightful Select (subscription required), Roderick Strong asked for his release from WWE “multiple times” during the past several months. Fightful Select notes that they were told Strong had “grown frustrated with many things over the past year within the company.”

Roderick Strong reportedly really wants out of WWE

Fightful says that those they’ve talked to in WWE say that Strong has remained professional in his handling of creative on a weekly basis. The company has no desire to release Strong due to the fact that he factors into their creative plans, sources told Fightful.

Additionally, sources told Fightful Select that Strong was opposed to a name change pitched by the company. Fightful Select notes that there were many within the company that were shocked Strong was not a part of the NXT releases on Apr. 29.

Strong joined the company back in 2016, debuting on the NXT brand. It was in 2018 that he joined the Undisputed Era faction alongside Adam Cole, Kyle O’Reilly and Bobby Fish after turning on his tag team partner, Pete Dunne at NXT TakeOver New Orleans. From there, Strong won the NXT Tag Team Championship twice and in 2019, won his first singles championship in WWE when he was crowned NXT North American Champion.

In 2021 after the Undisputed Era, Strong returned with a new faction called Diamond Mine. On Sept. 21, Strong defeated Kushida to win the Cruiserweight Championship. He held it until New Year’s Evil this past January, where he lost to NXT North American Champion Carmelo Hayes in a title unification match.

Strong is the last remaining member of Undisputed Era in WWE, as Cole, O’Reilly and Fish are all in AEW.
