2023 NFL Mock Draft: Texans reboot at QB in ‘way-too-early’ 2023 Mock
By Brad Weiss
When it comes to the 2022 NFL season, many feel this is finally the year that Justin Herbert punches his ticket to the playoffs. Sure, the Chargers were ‘can’t-miss’ last year, but the Las Vegas Raiders ended their season in Week 18, something they hope to avoid in Year 3 with Herbert at quarterback.
Despite adding Rashawn Slater in the first round in 2021, the Chargers could still go offensive tackle here, adding Paris Johnson from Ohio State. I believe that Johnson is the best offensive lineman in this draft class, and he lands in a perfect spot with Herbert and this Chargers offense.
Thanks to the trade they made with the Los Angeles Rams last offseason, a trade that netted the Rams a Super Bowl ring, the Detroit Lions will once again pick twice in the first round in 2023. After picking Alabama star quarterback Bryce Young early on, they go with Alabama star defensive tackle Byron Young here, bolstering the defensive line.
The truth is, the Lions have a lot of holes to fix on both sides of the ball, but Young is the kind of defensive tackle they could build around. Sure, they have some young talent there now, but he could be a long-term guy with Aidan Hutchinson next to him coming off the edge.
The Miami Dolphins hold two first-round picks in the 2023 NFL Draft, and after going defense earlier, they turn their attention to the offense here. It has become taboo to take a running back in the first round, but Bijan Robinson from the University of Texas may be too good to pass up on.
Robinson flashed in 2020, rushing for better than eight yards per carry, before becoming the feature back for the team in 2021. He ran the ball nearly 200 times, had close to 1,200 yards, found the end zone 11 times, and established himself as the top back in this draft class.
