Nolan Gorman

Gorman has been getting a lot of attention lately as he is lighting it up in Memphis.

He plays second base which is currently occupied by Gold Glove-winning second baseman Tommy Edman. He was originally drafted in the first round of the 2018 draft as a third baseman, which is a position currently occupied by Platinum and Gold Glove-winning, All-Star third baseman Nolan Arenado.

So the Cardinals have a lot to consider when bringing up Gorman. They will want to use him every day when he comes up. How will they do that when the positions he plays are filled?

There have been rumors of moving around players in order to bring Gorman up, specifically moving Edman to shortstop – a position he hasn’t played since he was in the minor leagues – to have Gorman play second. Edman has seven defensive runs saved at second base. Why sacrifice excellent defense at second for the possibility he’ll do the same at shortstop? Will Gorman be equally as good at the position? It’s possible the Cardinals could end up doing this just to see what happens.

While the Cardinals have many options, the club will assuredly give him a chance at being a designated hitter. Gorman is hitting .321/.372/.769 with a +189 wRC. He has two doubles, six walks, 11 home runs, 19 runs, 16 RBi, and one stolen base.

Gorman will, without a doubt, be a player fan will see this summer.
