Genesis Cabrera

He is one heck of a hard-throwing lefty for the Cardinals, but often frustratingly volatile.

In 11 games this season, Genesis Cabrera is 1-1 with three holds in 12.2 innings. while he has nine strikeouts, he has given up 10 hits and four walks. He’s given up four home runs, and four earned runs and has hit 2 batters by pitch. Last season he was completely frustrating to watch with his 36 walks and 29 earned runs, despite 77 strikeouts.

Despite the frustration, Cabrera has lots of potential with his arm. The Cardinals have gained confidence in using rookie Andre Pallante, Ryan Helsley, Giovanny Gallegos, and T.J. McFarland.

It’s hard to imagine but a team could take a gamble in taking on Cabrera. He may benefit from a change of scenery. Having a new pitching coach may help him hone his talents better. He may work better with another catcher or other staff.

A change could be good for Cabrera. He could be flipped for other middle innings relief or depth pieces. He will be arbitration-eligible in 2023.
