Game of the Week: New Orleans Saints at Arizona Cardinals

This game won’t make anybody change vacation plans, but it could be instructive on who makes the playoffs.

Last year, Arizona stormed out of the gates, being the last undefeated team in the league. However, for the second consecutive year,  the Cardinals stumbled down the stretch and while they made the postseason, they were a one-and-done wild card team. Kyler Murray, looking for a lucrative extension, needs to have the best year of his young career.

In New Orleans, it was a year of injuries. The Saints played a slew of games without quarterback Jameis Winston and all of them sans star receiver Michael Thomas. While winning the NFC South over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers isn’t likely, a wild card berth is viable for a team with Winston, Thomas, Alvin Kamara, rookie receiver Chris Olave and a good offensive line.

The winner of this game will have a nice tiebreaker in its satchel as the season draws to a close, either for seeding or perhaps to get into the playoffs. The loser drops a key game and will have to make the difference up elsewhere if at all.
