2) MLB rumors: Atlanta Braves are the runner-ups to trade for Xander Bogaerts

Along with the Angels, Robert Murray called the Atlanta Braves one of the other potential fits for Bogaerts. Only because they already have Dansby Swanson on the roster should they fall in as the runner-up in any trade talks. That’s not to say they won’t trade Swanson in order to get Bogaerts or simply move their longtime shortstop to the bench.

Swanson had a powerful, yet at times unproductive year in 2021. He isn’t giving Atlanta the same kind of pop this season as the club has almost universally struggled at the plate. They’re going to need another midseason boost like they received last year when they brought in a slew of outfielders at the trade deadline.

Bogaerts would be a little different than the kinds of trade Atlanta made in 2021. He is a star player and someone Atlanta should be in the market to possibly even retain.

There are plenty of players the Braves could shop when trying to pull off a trade for Bogaerts including several shortstops on the farm. Atlanta is attempting to pull off a rarity in professional sports and win back-to-back titles. Just because it doesn’t happen often doesn’t mean it’s not impossible. They need to try everything they can. Windows in this game shut quickly. Atlanta’s is open and before it closes, they need to give it their best shot.
