3) MLB rumors: Why the Seattle Mariners could trade for Juan Soto

The Seattle Mariners are fading in the American League West. Even if they do continue to fall, it wouldn’t be such a terrible idea to see if they can spark something with a trade for Soto. At the very least, it can give them some more to build off of for next season.

The Mariners continue to have one of the best farm systems in baseball. Their major league roster has even had some notable young outfielders suit up for them this year.

Julio Rodriguez is the most notable of them. He’s off to a fine start but it’s also not anything to grab anyone’s attention other than the fact that he began the year as one of the game’s best young players. Jarred Kelenic has already been demoted to Triple-A after 30 games of hitting .140. In a possible trade for Soto, the Mariners could say their goodbyes to him and upgrade with more of a sure thing.

It’s a little more outlandish than most trade ideas. The whole idea of a team trading a superstar like Soto is kind of crazy anyway. And yet this is the exact predicament the Nationals could find themselves in this summer.

The Mariners have the potential to regroup for next season if they are unable to turn things around. As long as they can stay alive closer to the trade deadline, maybe a trade for Soto completely turns their fortunes around.
