MLB rumors: Chicago Cubs make sense for White Merrifield

Whit Merrfield seems like a prime candidate for the Chicago Cubs. With Nick Madrigal and Nico Hoerner each on the injured list, and a roster loaded with versatile players available to many positions, Merrfield provides a veteran player for one prime spot in the infield.

While manager David Ross is working with a roster filled with young talent, many from the club’s Triple-A affiliate,  no one infielder really appears to have a set, everyday position. Ross appears to be hoping for the best with what he is given. After last season’s fire sale and mounting injuries this season, Ross may be in a situation to demand help in the way of a veteran presence the team could find in Merrfield.

Don’t be surprised to see the Cubs make a play for Merrfield in return for some of their young talent.
