MLB rumors: Whit Merrifield makes sense for Angels

Matt Duffy is a versatile infielder for the Angels with 10 of his 17 games played at second base. Duffy is in the midst of a one-year deal with the Angels worth $1.5 million. He will be a free agent in 2023. Merrfield’s services could definitely be used in this talented club’s roster.

The Angels have a knack for targeting veteran players with the hopes of them finding success in Southern California, joining a roster including Shohei Ohtani, Mike Trout, Anthony Rendon, and a slew of talented youngsters.

Merrfield may be just the target for the Angels. He provides another veteran and a talented infielder with a bat in need of a change in scenery. Where better to find a change of scenery than Southern California?

The Angels will definitely be in the mix for Merrfield, especially if they believe they can get him to sign a long-term extension.
