New York Yankees fans were not happy with manager Aaron Boone for his decisions that led to the team losing to the Baltimore Orioles in walk-off fashion on May 19.

The New York Yankees took the first three games of their series against the rival Baltimore Orioles, and had the chance to complete the four-game sweep on May 19. Instead, the Yankees had to fight hard to try to earn the win. Then, the ninth inning happened.

New York tied the game 6-6 on an RBI single by D.J. LeMahieu in the top of the ninth inning. In the bottom of the frame, manager Aaron Boone called upon Lucas Luetge to help send the game into extra innings. Instead, the team lost 9-6 after a three-run homer by Anthony Santander.

After the game, Yankees fans took to Twitter to air their grievances regarding manager Aaron Boone. Particularly, for bringing in Luetge and keeping a struggling Aaron Hicks in the batting order.

In Luetge’s first batter faced, Austin Hays reached first base on a fielding error by Josh Donaldson. The left-hander then struck out Ramon Urias to get the first out of the inning. Then, Luetge surrendered a single to Trey Mancini. Santander then approached the plate and hit a home run to left field to end the game.

After the game, Luetge now carries an ERA of 6.30.

As for Hicks, he has had a difficult time getting hits. In a 13-game span, including the May 19 contest, the outfielder is 2-for-37 in the batters’ box and struck out 13 times.

Boone spoke about Hicks’ struggles at the plate, saying, “we gotta get him going.” You can listen to his answer in YES Network’s tweet below:

Yankees fans may be critical of Boone’s decision-making this season and the campaigns before, but the team is still 28-10 on the year and sit atop the entire American League. But there is still plenty of season to go, and if they go on a losing streak, the criticism will grow.

The Yankees look to rebound on Friday, May 20, when they begin their three-game home series against the Chicago White Sox.
