Frankie Montas trade rumors: St. Louis Cardinals

The Cardinals rotation has really struggled to open the season. Adam Wainwright, even with his struggles, remains the team’s most reliable starter. With the Jordan Hicks as a starter experiment still going, and inconsistent performances from Miles Mikolas, Steven Matz, and Dakota Hudson, it’s getting frustrating.

So frustrating in fact, that the Cardinals brought up two of their top prospects — Nolan Gorman and Matthew Liberatore — to give the club a solid jolt.

It’s still unclear when the club’s presumptive ace Jack Flaherty will be ready to go this season. Something else will be needed. Another piece is needed and that will not be found by stretching out a closer.

Montas would be a very interesting fit with the Cardinals especially when you look at his ground ball rate of 48.8%. This is a real appeal to the Cardinals as president of baseball operations John Mozeliak is keen on pitchers who can use off-speed pitches to induce grounders that can be gobbled up by an amazing Gold Glove defense that the Cardinals are quite proud to have on their side.

While the Cardinals are not keen on trading away Gorman, St. Louis do have some pieces that could be used to get Montas in their rotation. If the price is right, Cardinals Nation would be elated to see the club make this substantial move.
