Sergino Dest may still have a bright future with the US Men’s National Team, but his time at Barcelona is coming to an end this summer.

Barcelona are set to make big changes to Xavi’s squad this summer and Sergino Dest is one player who won’t survive the La Liga club’s busy summer. The Spanish club have slapped a very reasonable asking price on the 21-year-old left back that will surely see him on the move in the coming weeks.

Sources in Spain claim that Dest will be made available for a modest price of €30 million when the summer transfer window opens. That’s a very reasonable fee for such a young player with starting experience at such a prestigious club. Dest wasn’t a star for Barcelona but he didn’t look out of place throughout the majority of their league campaign.

Where will Sergino Dest land?

The problem with Dest is that he lacks the power to be a quality defender in the final third. That deficiency is mitigated by his skill going forward but the American is not an exceptional crosser of the football. That weakness caused Xavi and the Barcelona coaching staff a great deal of frustration in his time with the club.

The good news for Dest is that crossing can be improved over time. Plenty of European clubs looking for an attacking fullback will run the rule over him this summer. If Barcelona are willing to shave a few million pounds off their asking price they should find Dest to be a very easy player to offload.

USMNT officials might prefer him stay with Barcelona to improve his craft, but he should secure a move to a club that’s plenty good enough to help him maintain his positive career trajectory. He isn’t going to blossom into a Barcelona star but there’s plenty of time left for him to find another big European club where he can make his mark.
