Undefeated middleweight Janibek Alimkhanuly took Danny Dignum out fast with a left hook for the round 2 KO and is the WBO interim champion.

Janibek Alimkhanuly is having difficulty cementing a significant boxing bout, and he showed why against England’s Danny Dignum.

Alimkhanuly and Dignum fought for the WBO interim middleweight title at Resorts World Las Vegas on May 21, but it didn’t last long. Alimkhanuly took Dignum out quickly.

Alimkhanuly (12-0, 8 KOs) dominated and put Dignum down in round 1. The southpaw, originally from Kazakhstan, was just getting started.

It was target practice for Alimkhanuly in round 2. His hand speed gave Dignum fits. Dignum couldn’t see Alimkhanuly’s left hand coming.

Alimkhanuly had Dignum in trouble against the ropes, and he unleashed a blazing left uppercut that dropped Dignum for good.

Dignum was on the canvases stunned and stood no chance of getting up, and the fight was ruled knockout.

Alimkhanuly is a former Olympian and amateur world champion who is hitting his prime at 29 years old. He trains with former world champion Buddy McGirt, and the partnership is working out well.

Alimkhanuly’s countryman, Gennadiy Golovkin, holds two world titles in the division but may fight Canelo Alvarez next. The WBO champion is Demetrius Andrade.

A purse bid for Andrade vs. Alimkhanuly fell through earlier in the year, but Andrade is running out of options. He’s either going to have to fight Alimkhanuly or relinquish his title at some point.

Alimkhanuly performed brilliantly on ESPN and showed that he could be the future of the middleweight division.
