Bears cut candidates: Lamar Jackson, CB

Prior to the hiring of Poles as general manager, the Bears signed former New York Jets cornerback Lamar Jackson to a reserve/futures contract.

After playing in 13 games in the 2020 season for the Jets, Jackson was waived and placed on their practice squad for the majority of the 2021 campaign. Through 14 games during his time with the Jets, Jackson recorded 28 combined tackles and two defended passes. In coverage during the 2020 season, Jackson allowed 28 receptions for 434 yards and five touchdowns on 46 targets, per Pro Football Reference.

Jackson is deep on Chicago’s cornerback depth chart after the team used one of their second round picks on Washington cornerback Kyler Gordon. By releasing Jackson, the team would free up $825,000 in cap space.
