Bears cut candidates: Mario Edwards Jr.

Much like Attaochu, Mario Edwards Jr. is a Pace signing. After starting off his career with the now-Las Vegas Raiders, and splitting time between the New York Giants, New Orleans Saints and Atlanta Falcons, Edwards signed on with the Bears in 2020.

Edwrds recorded 17 combined tackles and a career-high four sacks in 15 games in his first year in Chicago. He would then sign a three year, $11.6 million contract in 2021. Through 12 games, Edwards posted eight combined tackles, five quarterback hits and two sacks.

The Bears obviously do not have the same pass rush as they had in years prior after they traded Khalil Mack to the Los Angeles Chargers. But, if they want to free up cap space, they can free up $2.6 million with a post June 1 release, per Spotrac. However, they would eat a dead cap hit of $1.6 million in 2022 and $2.17 million in 2023. But, they can free up $3.5 million in cap space this year with a trade.

Something for the Bears to think about.
