1) MLB rumors: New York Yankees are a great fit for Willson Contreras

No team may be better than the New York Yankees this year and yet they are doing it with practically no offense to speak of from their catchers. Kyle Higashioka and Jose Trevino have been void of offensive production in 2022. No one expected them to be like Gary Sanchez in his early days but what they have given the Yankees early on is far less than anyone would want from a position that has to hit.

Contreras might scare some fans into believing it’s just the same thing over again. And with no spot to be the team’s DH, it’s catcher or nothing.

Those fears of Contreras being like Sanchez are not valid. He is a better overall hitter and someone who isn’t a butcher behind the plate. Contreras may never win a Gold Glove but he also won’t be a statue back there either.

The catcher spot may turn out to be the most logical place for the Yankees to upgrade because of how the rest of the roster looks. To get a better everyday bat in the lineup, it would make sense for them to explore a deal with the Cubs for a guy who could be the lone offense-oriented catcher available.

The Yankees already traded away their old starting catcher and brought in two more during the offseason. There’s no league minimum to stop them from making one more.
