Pete Carroll may not be coaching the Seattle Seahawks for very much longer

Not only is Pete Carroll in the wrong side of 70, but the Seattle Seahawks are not going to be the least bit good this season for the future hall-of-fame head coach. Trading away former starting quarterback Russell Wilson to the Denver Broncos will have disastrous consequences. With ownership in flux when it comes to Paul Allen’s estate, Carroll is not for long with the Seahawks.

Frankly, interim owner Jody Allen will probably let Carroll coach the Seahawks for as long as she owns the team. Carroll did help bring her late brother a Super Bowl championship back in 2013. However, another miserable year of Seahawks football could lead towards a complete teardown of the organization. Carroll may have some leverage in this situation, but time is so not on his side.

For the time being, the Seahawks are one of only a few franchises that feel totally directionless.

Mike McCarthy would be an easy scapegoat for the Dallas Cowboys’ failures

No team will view its head coach as the scapegoat more than the Mike McCarthy should the Dallas Cowboys fail. One would think they should be used to failing. They have failed all the time since Jerry Jones could not make things work long-term with his former Arkansas teammate Jimmy Johnson. The shame it in all is Dallas has been more good than bad, but rarely been great.

To be frank, McCarthy has the narrowest pathway to walk in order to keep his job. Dallas not only needs to win the division and make the NFC playoffs, but anything short of a conference championship appearance may not cut it for America’s Team. With two quality coordinators in-house in Kellen Moore and Dan Quinn, Dallas will have no problem pointing the finger at McCarthy.

It may not be all McCarthy’s fault, but the pressure that comes with coaching in Dallas is absurd.
